On March 15, 2014, a team of United Methodist Women from around the country begin their Ubuntu Journey to Liberia.
“Ubuntu is a Zulu/Xhosa word which is an African philosophy for respect for humanity. It captures the concept: “I am human because you are human.” It recognizes that each person is part of a community. Ubuntu is the being of mission. It focuses on relationships, shared experience, and mutuality. Ubuntu Journeys are about women of faith coming together through shared mission to address social issues and discover new ways of working together, supporting one another, and growing spiritually.” For additional information, visit http://prod.umwomen.org:88/what-we-do/service-and-advocacy/ubuntu-mission-trips.
The Ubuntu Liberia team includes Team Leader: Linda Crowell – Cleveland, Ohio, Carol Banks – McRae, Georgia, Rita Gaither-Gant – Indianapolis, Indiana, Arlene Mackie – Springfield, Massachusetts, and Diana Miller – Gladwin, Michigan. Although they will be in Liberia for seven days, four days will be spent meeting with Liberian United Methodist Women in Monrovia sharing about the United Methodist Church and United Methodist Women and learning more about the activities of United Methodist Women in Liberia. Other days will be spent visiting mission projects.
